While still a bit rough around the edges (better at night when the streets are crowded), the Lapa neighborhood draws crowds (thousands) from all walks of life to mix, mingle and enjoy some of the best music in one of Brazil’s music capitals. Samba and all types of music fill the air nightly. Lapa’s landmark aqueduct, Arcos da Lapa, is one of the areas most prominent landmarks; brightly lit at night. The Bonde (famous trolley cars of Santa Teresa) course over the 64-meter high structure. Closest metro stop is Cinelandia…. but take a taxi to and from at night to avoid trouble. The Tijuca Forest is home to hundreds of species of plants and wildlife many threatened by extinction and found only in the Atlantic Rainforest.
